Five Irresistible Valance Styles Everyone Will Love

A valance is a piece of finished decorative fabric that hangs across the top of a window.  Valances have a long history of providing decorative touches to homes of all sizes and classes around the world. As you can imagine, home decorators used dozens of valance types across the decades of its implementation. Therefore, this article will provide a list of five popular valance styles to choose from that can match a variety of home types and aesthetics.

Scallop Those Edges

Scalloped valances are an excellent way to add noticeable flair to any interior design. They usually consist of curves along the bottom of the window treatment that normally extends several inches below the rod pocket.  The scalloped bottom edge may have a decorative cording like twisted rope, fringe, or piping.  It has a rod pocket and sometimes a header above the rod pocket.

Rock a Roll-Up

Efficient and adjustable, a roll-up valance is a great way to adjust the size of your window borders, allowing you to add as much or as little light as you like into your room. Utilize your roll-up curtains as a valance by using two straps to adjust your drapes to the appropriate height. Balloon Shades are also adjustable by using rows of clear plastic sewn in rings attached to the back of the curtain, allowing for five different lengths.  It’s a simple and elegant interior decorating solution that can match many different personal styles.

Add a Touch of Elegance with a Scarf Style

Scarf valances are a single piece of fabric comprised of sheer, lace, or any material that lays across the top of your window and cascading down each side.  The Scarf Valance can be held in place with a set of swag holders or can dramatically drape over curtains using the same curtain rod. The over and under approach can also be stylish when the Scarf Valance is used on its own curtain rod.  It’s more minimalistic than other valances, and it usually pairs with a more subtle interior look. This particular style of valance goes great with wood blinds, as the minimalist nature of it allows for the natural beauty of the blinds to shine through.

Use the Classic Balloon Style

Balloon valances have sewn in tucks to create an easy care puffy, balloon-like appearance. Classic and elegant, this style adds a touch of opulence to any dwelling. This style will stand the test of time, not to mention it is as eye-catching as it is fanciful. Check out our Balloon Curtains for a great selection to match your valances.

Change Things Up with Tie-Ups

The tie-up valance is a simple one piece style that includes two straps that can be adjustable by tying each to the desired length with a bow.   Straps can also be sewn in to place making it non-adjustable but easier to hang and maintain. The straps can be of the same material as the valance’s main fabric but often a coordinating fabric is used to enhance the look of the valance.
